BASIS Bangkok is one of the most academically intense schools in the city, and it knows it. Part of the BASIS International network with campuses across Asia, it runs a rigorous US curriculum from Nursery (age 2) through Grade 12, with one of the most developed AP and Honors tracks in Bangkok. Families who arrive here are typically on a clear US university pathway. The community reflects that: a strong concentration of Chinese-national families alongside American and South Korean households. The school is located in Bang Khun Thian, directly next to Central Rama 2, which makes it practical for families in southern Bangkok, Samut Sakhon, and Nakhon Pathom, but a significant commute from Sukhumvit or the northern districts. At secondary level, enrollment is selective. If academic rigour and US university placement are the primary filters, BASIS is one of the few schools in Bangkok built specifically around that.

Everything parents need to know about Basis
Situated on 8.5 acres next to a 14-acre park along Rama 2 Road, BASIS International School Bangkok opened in August 2019 as the 35th campus in the American BASIS Curriculum Schools network. The school runs Nursery through Grade 12 and is built around the BASIS Curriculum, an accelerated liberal arts and sciences program benchmarked against top international systems.
Its defining feature is a dual-teacher model: every core class has a Subject Expert Teacher (SET) with deep disciplinary knowledge alongside a Learning Expert Teacher (LET) who tracks student understanding throughout the day. All students are required to take AP courses from Grade 9, with a minimum of six AP courses as a graduation requirement. The result is an unusually rigorous program by Bangkok standards, closer in academic intensity to selective US prep schools than to most international schools in the city. The school suits families committed to an academically demanding environment and, specifically, a US university pathway.
It draws a mix of Thai and expat families from across Bangkok, with a significant commute required for most given its location far south of the city center. The campus is purpose-built and fully owned, with facilities that include a 25-metre competition swimming pool, a 1,600-square-metre indoor gymnasium, a design kitchen with 3D printing, woodshop, engineering, and robotics rooms, science labs, a Black Box Theater, library, cafeteria, and an outdoor amphi-lawn.
The co-teaching model at the early years level pairs a qualified expatriate Early Education Teacher with a Thai Teaching Fellow who supports English acquisition for non-native speakers. Class sizes are capped at 15 in Nursery and 20 in PreK1 through Kindergarten, rising to 25 for Grades 1 through 12. Student support includes deans and counselors through a student affairs department, academic enrichment, a silent study hall, a homework club, and a structured SEL curriculum from Kindergarten.
AP pass rates have been published at 95.6% as of 2023, with students averaging 12.9 AP exams. Graduates have been accepted to Harvard, MIT, Stanford, Oxford, and other top-100 universities. BASIS Bangkok is best suited for academically motivated families, both Thai and international, who want a direct pathway to US universities and are prepared for a rigorous, homework-heavy program. The school is located in Bang Khun Thian, directly next to Central Rama 2, which makes it practical for families in southern Bangkok, Samut Sakhon, and Nakhon Pathom, but a significant commute from Sukhumvit or the northern districts. There is no boarding.
The academic pressure is explicitly high by design; the school openly states that Grade 5 students receive around 70 minutes of homework per night and Grade 6 and above at least 90 minutes. Families seeking a less intensive or more flexible international program will find it a poor fit. Best for: Thai families targeting US university admissions, expat families in southern Bangkok on medium to long postings, and families who have already experienced the BASIS network elsewhere.
